Est Time: 10-20 mins

Supplies: Flashcards

PROCEDURE:

-At the beginning of the unit, layout the flashcards of all of the words that will be learned. Without any further introduction, quiz the students on what the words are to assess how much they already know.

-Introduce each of the words and have the class repeat them.

-After going through all of them one-three times, let individuals take turns naming as many as they can remember.

-The student with the most recalled wins.

VARIATIONS:

-Extend the activity by doing multiple rounds. After each student has gone once with their scores recorded, do another review and let each student try again, combining their new score with the last. The student with the highest total score at the end wins.

-Remove the scoring aspect.

OTHER NOTES:

-Stress that it is not the students' responsibility to learn all of the words now and that they will be introduced gradually in the coming lessons. This is only a preview.

-This is an activity that can be used for the first lesson in any unit in any of the books.
