PICKING AN OUTFIT
Topic: Big Fun 2, Unit 6, Lesson 2
Audience: +6yo, Group or VIP class
Est Time: 20-30 mins
Supplies: Variety of clothing items, timing device, WB pen
PREPARATION:
-Collect at least one piece of all or almost all of the clothing items being studied, with more than one of some.
PROCEDURE:
-Introduce the class to each item of clothing until the recognize all of them. Put the items in a pile.
-Take the first volunteer and name three items for them to find and layout in the correct sequence. Record how long it takes them to finish.
-Take a new volunteer and ask them if they want to try arranging three, four or five items. Name that number of items, again timing them for how quickly they can find and arrange the pieces.
-Continue rounds, keeping track of the fastest time for each number of items.
-While it is not necessary to name a complete outfit each time, (particularly if doing three or four items), name unique items that could all be combined into one outfit, (shoes, socks and shirt), and require that the volunteer not oonly finds the items, but arranges them properly.
-Play for a designated amount of time with the holder of the fastest time for each number being the winner of that category.
VARIATIONS:
-If the students are comfortable with it, have them put on the items themselves as you name them instead of laying them out.
-Let students work in teams.
-Remove the timing/competition element of it.
-If working with younger children, limit the number of items per turn to two or three.
-Decide whether or not to repeat the items when the volunteer is having trouble remembering based on their age and skill.
MAKING THE CONNECTION:
-Review the names of each of the items before beginning.
-At the end of each turn, when the volunteer is confident that they have made the arrangement correctly, review the items laid out with the class to verify.
-Do another review at the end.
